It's a gray, chilly day here in the Twin Cities. Weather like this always makes me want to bake something. My mom was the same way; perhaps it's an inherited trait.
I thought it might be nice to bake the banana bread I wrote about last week. If you'd like to give it a try, here's the recipe. It's very basic, but basic can be really tasty.
Sean's Mom's Banana Bread
Beat with mixer until pale and creamy:
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup unsalted butter
3 Tbs milk or buttermilk
1 tsp baking soda
3 mashed bananas (the riper the better)
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp vanilla
1/4 tsp almond extract
2 cups all purpose flour
1/2 cup chocolate chips (optional)
1/2 cup chopped dried cherries (optional)
Bake at 350 for one hour, or until a toothpick inserted in the center of the loaf comes out clean.
