Today I'm kicking off a year of being 42. For some reason, I always find the even-year birthdays rather soothing. Being 41 never quite sat well with me for some reason. (Nor did 40, actually, but that was for entirely different reasons.)
To celebrate my continued existence, I'm doing the following:
~ Taking the day off from work. (Can't waste a Friday birthday at work!)
~ Napping this morning with Hudson
~ Having lunch with a cool friend of mine
~ Getting a massage from Scott at Quantum Massage Works (Can't wait!!)
~ Going with Darren and his parents to meet a couple work friends for a Teutonic happy hour and dinner at Glockenspiel in St. Paul.
~ Having about fifteen people over to our place tomorrow night for pizza, cocktails, and birthday cake.
However tasty this year's birthday cake is, it won't thrill me like the one in this picture, taken 38 years ago today.
I very clearly recall telling my mom I wanted my cake to be in the shape of a swan (gay toddlers are SO demanding), and she delivered. I'm pretty sure that cake still ranks as my all-time favorite. I was very torn about letting her cut into it. The little girl next to me was my pal Pam, from across the street.
Happy Friday, one and all. Time for me to snuggle up with a terrier...
